CLEVELAND, MS. (July 16, 2025) – Two high school students were killed in a crash involving an on-duty Bolivar County sheriff’s deputy on Tuesday, July 8.
The incident occurred on Yale Street in Cleveland at approximately 6:42 a.m. Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Deputy Brionna Brown, 29, of Pace, was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram westbound on Yale Street when it collided with a 1986 Toyota truck driven by a minor from Cleveland. The Toyota was traveling north on Crosby Road.
Both occupants of the Toyota – the teenage driver and a passenger from Boyle, Mississippi – were pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The victims have been identified as Ryder Houser, 15, and Joshua Willoughby, 16, both students at Bayou Academy. The teenagers were reportedly on their way to football practice when the collision occurred.
