Officials say a contractor worked on-site on new gas lines at the apartment complex. Residents say a crew had been working on the lines for approximately two weeks and that you could smell gas at the complex.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
The Causes of a Natural Gas Explosion
Various reasons can cause a gas explosion. Common examples include poor maintenance on the gas lines, cracked gas pipes, leaks in the line from not being hooked up properly, and defective equipment.
Multiple parties could be responsible for a gas explosion. Not only could the property owner be held responsible, but also the utility company, a construction company, those responsible for maintaining the gas lines, the manufacturer of the defective product, and possibly the government.
If you are involved in a gas explosion, your first step is to get help immediately. Call 911 and get as far away from the accident scene as possible since there may be more than one explosion. Get medical help as soon as possible and keep track of any losses you may have.
