The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission  has announced the recall of about 1,200 2008-2009
Can-Am Youth ATVs. In the case of rider ejection when the cord strap is pulled, the shutoff switch can fail to disable the engine. The ATV can then operate uncontrolled until the engine returns to idle. This can cause all kinds of problems, including collisions with bystanders, vehicles or otherobjects.

The ATV’s were made in Vietnam by Vietnam Precision Industrial for BRP U.S. Inc., of Sturtevant, Wisconsin. They were sold at authorized Can-Am dealers nationwide from August 2007 through September 2008 for about $3,400 each.

The recall involves model year 2008-2009 Can-Am DS 90 X ATVs that are black with yellow and orange trim. You can find the model name located on the side panels.

If you have one of the recalled ATV’s, you should immediately stop your children from using it and contact any Can-Am=AE dealer to schedule a free repair. Consumers are also being sent a direct notice from BRP.

Razor USA Recalls PowerWing Three-Wheeled Scooters Due to Laceration Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Razor AE PowerWing Three-Wheeled Scooters

Units: About 103,000
Importer: Razor USA LLC, of Cerritos, Calif.

Hazard: The undersides of the foot platforms can have sharp edges, posing a laceration hazard to children.

Incidents/Injuries: Razor has received 10 reports of Achilles tendon or ankle lacerations, including four consumers who required tendon surgery and three who needed stitches.

Description: The PowerWing is a three-wheeled scooter, which was sold in either black or silver. The recall includes products with serial numbers beginning with:
Y708 Y709 Y710 Y711 Y712=09
Y801 Y802 Y803 Y804 Y805=09
Y806 Y807 Y808 =09

The serial number is located on the bottom of the scooter near the front wheel. Products with an oval sticker next to the serial number with a “V” followed by any letter (example VE, VF, VG, etc.) are not included in the recall.

Sold by: Authorized retailers nationwide and online from October 2007 through September 2008 for about $100.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Parents should immediately stop children from using the product.  Do not return the product to retailers. Contact Razor for a set of free replacement foot platforms.

Toy Police Cars Recalled by TCB Imports Due to Violation of Lead Paint

Units: About 3,000
Importer: TCB Imports, of Vernon, California

Hazard: The red paint on the toy cars contains excess levels of lead,
violating the federal lead paint standard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves toy police cars with a friction function. When the toy car is pushed forward, the car builds momentum. When released, the car moves forward on its own. The cars were sold in red/white and purple/white color combinations. The cars measure 8 inches by 4 inches by 4 inches. Item number TF820 is printed on the product’s packaging.

Sold at: Dollar and discount stores nationwide from May 2008 through August 2008 for about $1.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take this toy away from children  and return it to the store where purchased for a refund.

Deere & Company Recalls Gator XUV Utility Vehicles Due to Fire Hazard

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: John Deere Gator XUV 620i Utility Vehicles
Units: About 2,500
Manufacturer: Deere & Company, of Moline, Ill.
Hazard: The fuel tank can leak from a gap in the seam at the base of the
filler neck, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Deere & Company has received seven reports of fuel tank
leaks. No fires or injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled utility vehicle is Model 620i. The model number is painted on the side of the vehicle. The recall includes the following serial numbers. The serial number plate is on the vehicle’s frame in front of the passenger side rear fender.

Hazard: The darts in the games pose a puncture hazard to young children.
Lawn darts were banned in December 1988 to protect children from skull, face
and eye puncture wounds.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled lawn dart game includes four projectiles, each
consisting of a 14 3/4″ bamboo shaft, four fins, and a wooden tip.

Sold at: Kensington Trading Company online and Hammacher Schlemmer online
from March 2006 through July 2008 for about $60.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Parents should immediately stop young children from playing with the
recalled games and contact the firm to receive a refund. John Jaques & Son
and Hammacher Schlemmer are contacting customers directly.
